Gotham Lighting Recalls Ceiling Lights that Can Fail to Work in an Emergency
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Gotham Lighting, of Conyers, Ga., announced a voluntary recall of about 30,000 of its recessed ceiling lights because the units' backup battery could be programmed incorrectly and prevent the lights from functioning in an emergency.
The product, Gotham Compact Fluorescent Downlights, was manufactured in the United States and China between Nov. 1, 2007, and July 31, 2008, and sold by electrical distributors and sales representatives nationwide through July 2008 for between $250 and $350. Only versions of the Gotham lights sold with the optional backup battery pack are included in the recall.
CPSC says consumers should inspect the fixtures immediately and contact Gotham at (800) 315-4982 (8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday) to receive a repair for the light fixture. More information is also available at the firm's Web site, www.gothamlighting.com.
