NIOSH Posts Matrix for Magnetic Field Exposures, Risks

A new job-exposure matrix assessing exposures to magnetic fields from electric power has just been posted to the NIOSH Web site. NIOSH collaborated with researchers from the University of Washington to study disease risks from occupational magnetic fields exposures, which have been identified as a possible human carcinogen by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the California Department of Public Health.

The result of the research was a job-exposure matrix that links exposure statistics with disease and death certificates. The matrix, which has already been used in three epidemiologic studies, can be obtained as MS Excel® files at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/emf/jem-powerfreq/jempowerfreq.html.
