AIHA Returns Home for IH Fundamentals Course

Long after AIHce 2008 has closed its doors, the American Industrial Hygiene Association will continue to offer further educational and networking events. AIHA's Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene course, held on June 16-19 in Evanston, Ill., is for those who may be new to IH or have newly acquired IH responsibilities.

This introductory four-day course has been designed to provide exposure to the broad field of industrial hygiene through sampling and workshop sessions, hands-on lab experiences with up-to-date equipment, demo sessions, and problem-solving exercises.

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Identify industrial hygiene principles and practices
  • Describe basic concepts of health hazard recognition, evaluation, and control methods
  • Select appropriate air sampling method for airborne contaminants
  • Calculate the Time Weighted Average (TWA) from multiple samples
  • Compare sample results to the appropriate Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs)

Course materials include a course manual, ACGIH's 2006 TLVs and BEIs, and AIHA's The Occupational Environment: Its Evaluation, Control, and Management on CD-ROM (a value of $149).
