Passenger Vehicle Safety Examined by Senate Committee
The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation announces a Consumer Affairs, Insurance, and Automotive Safety Subcommittee Oversight Hearing on Passenger Vehicle Roof Strength scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m. The hearing will consider the biomechanics of what occurs during a rollover, the relationship between vehicle roof strength and occupant injury risk, and the history and efficacy of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's roof strength standard in improving vehicle safety.
The hearing also will review the Jan. 30, 2008, Supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SNPRM). The agency's deadline for issuing the final rule is July 1, 2008, with a legally permissible extension if necessary. Senator Mark Pryor, D-Ark., will preside.
