Journal Unit to Pay $200,000 to Settle Clean-Air Violation Claims
A subsidiary of Milwaukee-based Journal Communications Inc. has agreed to pay $200,000 under an agreement with EPA to settle allegations that the company's former printing plant in Norway, Mich., violated clean-air regulations.
EPA's Region 5 had alleged that the former NorthStar Print Group Inc. plant violated national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants for the printing and chromium electroplating industries. EPA said testing, planning, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements were violated.
The case involved alleged violations that occurred prior to Journal Communications' sale of NorthStar to Cincinnati-based label maker Multi-Color Corp. in 2005.
